Another fatality near Bendigo

Victoria Police confirmed a blue Commodore station wagon had been travelling east on Fogartys Gap Road in Ravenswood, south of Bendigo, about 6.25pm when he collided with the cyclist near the Calder Highway.
The male cyclist died at the scene.

The driver, a man aged in his 60s, was arrested at the scene and remains in custody.

just read story on age website, .... 'an empty chair at the xmas table'. looking on street view - a quite country road, not good.

'arrested at the scene'? Usually it's just the 'assisting police' comment. Interesting.

Hopefully the family have been able to be informed by now. Sadly.

I rode up there on 'Ride Daylesford' a month or so back.

Looks to be near the top of the 'gap' and should have been good light at 6:25pm.

Drunk driver sentenced to 3 years (18 months non parole). Instead of checking on the cyclist, he desperately called his sister to organize a "good lawyer".

"He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death, failing to render assistance and failing a blood alcohol test. He recorded a blood alcohol reading of .067 in the hours after the crash"

Yet another case that shows how little a cyclist's life is worth in this messed up country.

Bendigo figures again - boy dies after Dec 28 collision.

A teenage boy has died in hospital after a serious collision in Strathfieldsaye on 28 December.

The 16-year-old California Gully boy was riding a BMX bicycle on Strathfieldsaye Road when it collided with a vehicle about 10.30pm.

The teenager was taken to hospital with serious injuries but later passed away.

The driver of the car, a 24-year-old Kennington woman stopped at the scene.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
