Missing link in Anniversary Trail

Postby Philip » Thu 09 Jul 2015, 5:14 pm

For the many who have ridden the Anniversary Trail through Boroondara, there has been glaring gap in the path between Prospect Hill Road and Riversdale Road for many years. Finally it looks like this link might be closed. At Monday's council meeting, there is a proposal to enter into a partnership with Camberwell High School to free up some land to continue the path off-road past the school and avoid forcing path users to use Spencer Road (the Spencer/Prospect Hill Road intersection is a recognised blackspot).

You can read the full report and other details here: http://www.boroondara.vic.gov.au/-/medi ... 0Trail.pdf

The meeting is open to the public, so please come along if you're interested :)

Fantastic news! As a frequent user of this section (mainly as a runner, but also as a cyclist), this is a great idea.
Cycling is not an interest of mine - it's a way of life.

The present arrangement never bothers me, but groups I have ridden with have scared the living daylights out of me the way they treat and behave on the road, especially that intersection with Prospect Hill Road. I think that all of these shared paths off road have bred a yellow clad brigade of seniors with absolutely no road sense.

Well at least they wear yellow so that the motorists can see them more easily!

If you haven't done it before then it's very easy to get lost going through there. When I do it now on a weekend I find that there is always some other rider who is totally lost.

Which side of the creek is this on? Does it also deal with the missing link bit on the east side of the creek to join Walker Street to Cunningham Street? Or is it just dealing with the underpass bit at Rushall Station?

Guys this is in Boroondara near Riversdale Road, not in Yarra

You're doing a great job as a councillor, keep on pushing the bicycle improvements. When will Boroondara join Yarra with it's first on street separated bikeway? ;). I vote Burwood road.

A good project, but yeah not this one :P

FYI the motion passed at council tonight to put the plan for the Anniversary Trail out for community consultation. No doubt you'll be seeing some surveys and plans published in due course.

Community consultation on this project has opened and is open until Friday 11 September.

There are two presented options: one involves moving the carpark within the park to avoid conflict with path users and the other involves removing the carpark form the park altogether. They are otherwise the same.

Option 1

Option 2

You can see the full designs from the link below.

There will be two in-person consultation sessions:

  • 10am to 1pm, Saturday 29 August
  • 10am to 1pm, Saturday 5 September

There is also an online survey.

Going to keep plugging this :P

There will be another site consultation tomorrow from 10am - 1pm on-site. If you're interested head down to Riversdale Park and have a chat to council officers.

Thanks Philip, I ride that trail occasionally so the updates are great :)
