How was your recreational ride today?
This thread is tell us about our recreational cycling, eg riding along bike paths, riding with family, riding with children.

To start this thread off, here are a few photos my ride this morning.
I left the Broadwater Caravan Park, Southport and headed south along the bikepath then at Southport Yacht Club, I rode along the Spit Rd Bike path to the Gold Coast Seawall. It is a lovely ride about 20kms round trip.
Here are a couple of the sights along the way. Notice the weather, it is beautiful.

My mighty treadley with Surfers Paradise in the background.

Frosty, you have guts stopping on the Southport bridge.
If you speak to the locals, they average more than one smash a day on that bridge. There are usually tow trucks stationed on one side of the bridge waiting for the inevitable stack to happen.

I maybe old, retired and a bit silly
but I didn't stop on the bridge. The path on the right is the shared bike/pedestrian path which I used to cross the bridge.
Today I rode down to Ivanhoe Cycles via Oriel Road to make a warranty claim on my Topeak trunk bag. From there I rode down through Alphington and Fairfield to join the Yarra trail. At the bridge across to Roseneath St and the Merri Trail a fallen tree was blocking the track down to the bridge so I continued down to the track coming from the south. As I made the sharp turn my rear wheel slid out and I too a tumble, injuring my hand - I think its just bruised. Picked myself up and continued on to the Merri trail northwards into what must have been a 25-30km/h headwind. Around Coburg I heard a loud creaking noise and was lucky to avoid a big branch falling on top of me. Continued on to the Ring Road and turned east. At Darebin Creek I turned off to the south going cross country on foot to get to the Mt Cooper road. Did some more cross country to avoid the ascent to the top as all the riding upwind had taken too much out of me. Wound through Bundoora Park then crossed over to the old Mont Park area then opened up the throttle for the downwind ride along the ridge on Waiora Road back home. A few hundred metres short of 50km which is a long ride for me.
Would have been much more pleasant with less wind and I found the Ring Road disappointing - too noisy and not very scenic. Darebin Creek would be better if it was all joined up.

I rode the Capital City Trail again today, and found that there's only 1 point now where it's blocked - the Hilton site on Southbank where the construction works continue 
The bridge works over Queens Pde / High St in Clifton Hill have been finished, so the shared path continues under it as before, while the pedestrian/cyclist bridge over Manningham St and Flemington Rd near Flemington Bridge train station is nothing short of fantastic!
There was a blockage on the trail a few 100m north of Footscray Rd, where the trail dips - there was about 20-30cm of water flooding a section at least 10m long, so getting around it was tricky.

My recreational ride is making me irritable - yes I am getting old!
This morning, frosty on the face and fingers, but warmed up except for the toes. Just time before work for 30kms.
Two genteel ladies with poodles on leashes - ring the bell 30 metres behind, and guess what, one goes left, one goes right, poodles not happy being parted, and continue to rub noses in the centre of the path! How about both moving quietly to the left ladies, and I will overtake on the right! Dogs partly trained, owners completely untrained.
Gent with fluro vest walking well ahead of me - saw him from way back, that's great! Keeping an eye on him as I prepare to pass, and his two big brown dogs, unrestrained, cavorting ten meters behind him on the brown concrete near the Monash underpass nearly brought me down.
I really do enjoy my rides, but the occasional moron really pushes my buttons!
