Brilliant. You can race at DISC every week if you want. You can train with Carl every friday as well. You could spend a LOT of time there pretty easily. Climbing over 3 laps and then crossing the start line flat and staying low for the next 200 is a flying 200 (sometimes called the big dipper at DISC) and thats essentially a sprint qualifier for racing sprints.

Great work Canuck! As Percrime has said - you can race Tuesday nights, Thursday nights and through Winter some Sunday afternoons at DISC... Then there are various training sessions run by a number of clubs on other days. Or can also check the schedule and if free spend $5 per hour and make up your own training

I still haven't tried CX, which was supposed to be my next adventure...not sure how this displaced it! I think I need to get rid of a couple old bikes and consider altering the range I own...

Not sure when I'll be able to fit in more of this, but it's at least on the list....

Had a blast! Did not fall off, managed to become one with the fixed wheel bike (interesting) and ventured right up the top of the boards.

The coaches were taking a fairly hands-off approach after giving us a few pointers, road rules and encouragement. A couple of young girls did slide down the boards as they failed to keep enough momentum as rounding the end.

If I had more free time I'd definitely consider joining a club. Maybe when the kids have flown the coop (or at the very least, don't need my wife and I as chauffeurs).

When riding down Grange Rd to the MYT/Koonung trail to ride to Box Hill I encountered my first swoop from a magpie. Scared the snot out of me - and he came back for seconds and thirds! Luckily apart from his claws on my helmet I didn't get any other contact. B@stard thing!
