The mud might actually be preferable to the stopping power of cantis. But you don't have to have them H.

Now, if you're going, you could drink my share of any beer hey?

Heather, if you can fit 32mm knobbies in your road bike, you're good to go. Open up the brake adjuster a bit to provide a little more clearance, and expect to have to dig some mud out with a stick when the resistance gets too high. Definitely a better option than the MTB though.

If clearance is tight, you can do what Tim McGrath did at the prologue and just race your training road bike on 23mm slicks!

Do it Heather!
I'm going anyway and it would be fantastic to have one of my mates to cheer on!
As an extra incentive if you enter I'll supply your beer :D

To anyone thinking of entering I went and spectated a couple of times last year and these are one of the most fun and friendly events, a fantastic day out.

This is what my mtb looked like after the 3rd race last year:

A little bit clogged.

oooo, count me in! (to ride there, watch and drink, I mean :P ) - I'll be there to ask you the question Heather - "Why are you doing this, again?"

Maybe we can just hose you off afterward?

I will be competing on Sunday and would like to encourage anyone who is wavering to give it a go. Yes there will be mud, lots of it, but I was at Darebin Parklands last week and its not that smelly. As others have mentioned, the atmosphere is killer on the day. Even though while you are racing you wish to swear at people who are telling you to lift your knees higher over the barriers, once you have caught your breath, the cheering and well-wishing provides a huge buzz. To take the pressure off anyone who feels they may look silly, I shall be wearing a skin suit with pink flames on it. Yep - taking one for the team!

If you are feeling nervous, rope a friend in to compete with you, or approach any of the other women who look like they are competing and buddy up - we are all pretty keen to support anyone giving it a go.

Don't forget there is a kids race as well. If you know anyone under 15 who wants a legitimate excuse to ride through puddles - bring them along!

So give it a go - you won't regret it!

Kate.

Oooh.

Is there a 3yo womens' division?

Are runbikes permitted under UCI rules?
