Hi,

I'm planning to have a go at the Great Victorian Bike Ride in 2015. I presently ride between 50-80 kms a week just for the exercise, although 50 years ago I rode competitively. You can see I'm not a youngster. What advice?

Slowly this year extend your distances - or really - time in the saddle. The days get long.

Make sure your bike is up to it - it probably is fine, but it's not a bad idea to get a service a few weeks prior (to give you a bit of leeway to test it and double-check everything is ok).

Ensure you have a good plate/bowl/mug combination, and knife/fork with something to carry it all in. This makes life SO much easier.
