Western Region Ride (WRR)

Postby thorle » Thu 10 Jan 2008, 9:16 pm

We've got the NRR and the MRR. Now it's time for the WRR - Western Region Ride. Unlike its predecessors the WRR is a long distance ride and held at the other end of the day.

The WRR was born out of a day of frustration in early December when Marc, Chris71 and I planned a ride to Werribee South. Unfortunately it was on a very wet day and was abandoned at Williamstown after some heavy rain. We spent 2 hours over coffee before returning to our start point in Footscray. After discovering that we all worked in or near the city we decided that we could probably do the ride after work starting at about 4.00pm from the Docklands (end of Latrobe St).

The inaugural WRR will take place on Wednesday, 16 January.

Time: 4.00pm
Start: Docklands (end of Latrobe St)
To: Werribee South and return
Distance: 85kms

I have created a bikely map of the proposed route which is open to change.

http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/We ... egion-Ride

This ride has been aimed at riders who live in the north west suburbs and work in or around the city. However, anyone is welcome to come along.

The ride will only be available during daylight saving ie. Beginning of October until the end of April after which time it can be moved to the weekend. If the ride proves to be a success we will do it on a weekly basis.

Anyway here's the starting list for the founding members of the inaugural ride. Add your name if interested.

Ohhhh, sounds good! But I will be away at the beach next week, so might join you if this ride gets a second run.

All of the MRRers know that the correct way to say this is...

"I'll be there (unless I'm not)"...

Won't necessarily always be a Wednesday. If it's as hot as the last couple of days will either postpone or change to another day. Early stages yet. We will be flexible. As stated when daylight saving finishes will change to weekend.

Nice one Thorle, Chris, Marc, Whad, Willew
WRR is a great idea.
I like the MRR; I always know I am going to meet up with a bunch, have a good ride, a bit of chat, coffee, and enjoy the bike.
Wish you well on getting this thing up and regular.
