Upon arriving at lysterfield is there only one gate/entrance to use?
Sorry it's been a while since I've been there

There are a few places to enter the park, but the two most common are....

- Hallam North Road / Comm Games carpark - Very small and can get very busy.... then suddenly very quiet. Then suddenly very busy again. Good if you're going to hang out around the Comm Games end of the park
- Horswood Road / Main entrance - This is where most people go. MTBers and runners mostly park in the first carpark on the right AFTER you enter the main gates. It's a pretty big car park, but will get busy given the nice weather.

What time you heading out there? I'm contemplating heading out for a short spin myself (newborn permitting).....

Yep what snuffy said.

The Comm games track is definitely a better option if you're not keen on getting airborne at all. I'd love to head out and show you around as well but I've got kid wrangling duties saturday.

faster wrote:thanx for the info all. i certainly wouldn't enter this with a win it or bin it attitude. i'd like a time around 6 hours but i'll have a better gauge on Saturday as i'll give Lysterfield a crack on the route from the above post. if i struggle to do that 3x i'll end the current ambition. :D

if you have strava, have a look at this map.

https://www.strava.com/segments/2699387

as a indicator 6 hour riders would be under 30 minutes I reckon.

the loop has 100 metres climbing per 5.8km loop so you're getting close to the 100k/2500 metres of odyssey (rate of climbing per km).

Oh ! Highly over ambitious time I've hoped for there. I'm planning on getting to lysterfield around 6am, , earlier if I can.

Ahh roadie o'clock - watch out for the roos.

If I'm there, I'll be early, but not THAT early.

Black and gold rigid singlespeed. It's pretty obnoxiously bling ;)

^^^^ YES!!!

Dawn and Dusk are pretty bad for Roos at Lysty, I've hit them twice, they're almost dumber than motorists, but not quite.

This is hard work. Started at 6 it's now 8. I'm back at the car eating bananas. I have no idea where to go so I'm just going wherever. Followed a girl who was kind enough to drag me around the competition trail until I got lost after the climb coming back. Dumbarse!
I'll need to seriously ( re ) think about doing the Odyssey 100 as I accept experience ( of which i lack )is the best preparation.
Fitness is fine, full rigid is ok too, keeps me alert as i reckon rear suspension gives cashed up incompetents ( too harsh I know ) every opportunity, but they're doing it.
I don't understand wide handlebars and to some extent rear suspension as it takes ( I assume ) an exciting edge out of it.
So back to the trail....

I'm done for the morning. Pushed out 40km and feel fine for it.
Sorry for the running commentary.
I really struggled with knowing where to go around here.
Eventually found the quarry track and climbed what that had to offer a couple of times.
Experience and adequate tires I find are the necessities for doing this.
I think I've left my ambition a bit late to tackle the Odyssey 100 next week.
But we'll see, weather conditions for the event look favorable.

faster,

Write as much and as often as you want too.
I am not sure what this Odyssey 2016 is, I assume that it is a bugger of a course.

Good luck.

Frosty.

Newborn said no.

Was going to offer to tour guide you around Lysty next weekend.

Then realised that the race itself is next week!

Good luck!
