Given that the groups listed at the bottom are FebFast and YSAS, I'd say....no.

At this point, they have mentioned re: youth and breaking the addiction cycle - I'm waiting to see if it's a ride aimed at getting youth involved (and specifically those at high risk of addiction, etc), or one where the organisations have banded together to raise money for the cause.

(edited to correct the acronym)

Take a break from alcohol, sugar, caffeine....

How exactly do they expect me to do a ~70-75 km overnight ride?!?

I don't think you have to give up all of them at once. :P

No worries, should appeal to different groups - one for insomniacs .... the other not so. :D

Nup. But still a nice idea. And probably more people than the Night Grind - although that was a very good turnout for the time and location.

Wow...what an incredibly bad idea.

Unless you can stay awake to ride to Geelong on Saturday morning, check out the action, ride back to the city, do the night ride, head back to Geelong after breakfast....lol

No doubt there will be riders doing the double header, it's inevitable. You'll pick them out on the night ride, talking loudly how easy they thought the Cadel ride was...
Just a bike & a place to ride.

$89 flat fee entry - with encouragement, but no requirement to fundraise.
$20 entry with commitment to fundraise $350. No fund raising, no valid entry.

It's for a good cause:

Donations made to Ride the Night will support Youth Support + Advocacy Service (YSAS), a leading youth health not-for-profit agency based here in Melbourne that helps highly vulnerable and high risk young people with substance dependence and misuse issues take control of their health and wellbeing.

I'm keen to participate - consulting with the family.

A national body to represent recreational cyclists would be a good thing IMHO.
Whether Bicycle Network should be that body is debatable!

From the organisers

"Right up until the night of the event, we will offer two registration options: flat fee and fundraiser. Right now (during the early bird period, which runs until 31-October) the flat fee registration fee is $89 and the fundraiser fee is $20 (with a guarantee that the participant will fundraise at least $350 prior to the event start).

These amounts will increase to $99 and $25 respectively after the early bird period ends and remain at this rate until December 31, when they will be considered late registrations and be charged at $119 and $35 respectively."
