The best snow rides have always had little-to-no planning at all. When:
: Sunday 13 July @ 8:30am Where
: Meet at the carpark just below Cog bike cafeWhat
: Mt Donna Buang via O'Shannassy Aqueduct and Don Road
As usual.... bring
- LOTS of clothes. The descent will be cold. Very, very, very, cold.
- LOTS of food. The cold will make you burn more calories than usual.
- Lights (not lots, just some). Parts of the ride will be on public roads, plus the weather will probably be rubbish. What bike?
This started out on MTBs, because back then I had very little skillz. Plus, I only two bikes and I definitely wasn't bringing my shiny road bike up. Every year, I've discovered that I need less and less bike. Despite the mud and snow, people have done this ride on road bikes before. Personally, I'm not so game. In the end, if there's snow and you're not on a fat bike, you're going to be walking anyway. This year, I'll probably be on my Karate Monkey
on ~35mm slicks or CX tyres.
Only thing that I would recommend is to ditch your road pedals because I suspect there will be some walking this year.
