Hi my name is Robert. I am just wondering if the two riders on the recent ATB 300km ride who needed a chain breaker tool on the side of the road near Red hill managed to finish there ride. I was quite happy to lend them my chain tool but I just wanted to make sure that they got home in one piece.
One nut fastening the tensioner on the rear loosened off on my 2-speed Brompton. They saved the tensioner, but the nut could not be found. They tried to make it by shortening the chain (thanks Robert!), but had to bail at Safety Beach. 227kms. They were pretty gutted, but not as upset as me. We had two do the 210km last year. They'll do the 300km next year - was going well otherwise.
Oh, and no, I have no wish to accompany them. Happy with my 13km+/- daily ride total.
Sorry to hear you did not make it around. I will also be doing the 300 km next year and hope to see the foldup bikes ( with spare nuts ) on my journey somewhere. I may also carry a spare foldup bike in my saddle bag along with all my other goodies.
The 300 was good this year. It's a long day in the saddle, but the additions through Athur's Seat, Flinders and Red Hill were a highlight. I just shudder to think what it would be like on a lousy weather day through!
