Re: How was your commute today

Lovely to catch up on all your updates! Dalai - hope your wife comes back clear. HollyM - how far along are you now (if you don't mind my asking)? Similar experience to everyone else yesterday and today - headwind home, tailwind in. Maintenance truck blocking the bicycle lane outside the North Melbo...

Re: Seek Mirror for Shimano STI levers.

Not sure about a mirror on the levers, but I have the Italian Road Bike Mirror which is installed on the end of my drop bar. Works a treat. Installation by wrapping the bar tape around the ends of the mirror. Ships to Australia too. :) http://www.avt.bike/WebStore/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Produc...

Re: How was your commute today

Wasn't as bad a drenching as a couple of weeks ago, but still got wet on the ride in. At least the wet weather gear (mudguards etc.) works. :)

Re: How was your commute today

Been a while since posting - been ridiculously busy at work and not much time to breathe. A memorable commute was being drenched a couple of weeks back on that extremely rainy day and having the work colleague in the office beside me tell me she had to turn off my fan (very stuffy office) as it was ...

Re: How was your commute today

Late night ride home on Wednesday night after a work function meant leaving and riding around 10pm. Glad for my bright trail light to light up all those dark pedestrians. I can't remember which ride home was the one with the drops of rain (was it last night or the night before?), but I'm glad it was...

Re: A new bell - Knog "Oi" on Kickstarter

I have no problems with Knog using Kickstarter for this. It is a new product, they are testing the market, they smashed their funding goal and they know the product appears popular enough that it will stick, even at $26 a bell. I'm getting one through the campaign... Actually I'm trying to get two. :P

Re: National Ride2School Day

Lots of kids riding their bikes this morning on the path. There is usually only one regular school kid who rides that I see, but today there were 10-15. Good to see. :)

And so it begins: http://www.news.com.au/national/nsw-act/news/new-cycling-laws-one-of-the-first-bike-riders-hit-with-319-fine-for-not-wearing-a-helmet/news-story/ae3b9623f948d15f7d11c89b0d975830 That article was absolute garbage. "We saw some riders riding in the middle lane, even though ther...

Re: How was your commute today

Great day to be on a bike. Traffic gridlocked in both directions on Lorimer St due West Gate closure. I decided to used the "shared" path rather than the road - too dicey with aggravated drivers! Lots of people walking as well. Not wrong there. St Kilda rd was gridlocked, as was most of S...

Re: How was your commute today

Got sweaty on the ride in. Haha. Passed a bunch of older guys riding their bikes on the Maribyrnong River trail who were taking up both sides of the shared path. Fortunately they went single file for an oncoming rider and then heeded my "passing" call and stayed single file as I went past....

Re: How was your commute today

The AGE article on Sydney road has about 10,000 variations on the comment "There's a BIKE PATH there so why do they USE THE ROAD derp". Presumably bike riders never have to use, you know, a shop, or anything like that. There is a perfectly good freeway parallel to Sydney rd, not...

Re: Commuting to work "quicker"

I'd like a 25kph assist into those headwinds to work! My speed quickly goes down way less than that when pushing through them. And I'm sure you could still get above 25kph but the assist would just be off and you'd be using your own steam to reach 55kph downhill and cruise at 30kph. Nothing wrong wi...

Re: How was your commute today

Here is a shocker from last week. I was waiting at the lights on the corner of La Trobe and Spencer and the lights went green but i stayed put because there was a fire truck screaming along Spencer. It's my policy to wait for emergency vehicles. I could have shluffed as far as the tram track but I ...

Re: Albi's ride THIS FRIDAY 26th February 530pm

Yeah I did this ride - I felt the police support was good with the marshalls doing a really good job stopping and speaking to drivers trying to pull out of side streets and drivers wanting to turn right into side streets. I didn't see any angst. It started late because we were waiting for Albi's pa...
