Re: Flat bar roadie or CX for commuting

I started commuting on a Kona Dr Dew (flat bar road bike), and have upgraded to a Boardman CXR9.2. Loving the cyclocross and the similarity to the road bike that I ride. If my focus was MTB then I'd probably have stayed with the flat bar. I have mechanical discs that I'm very happy with - better tha...

Re: How was your commute today

A little cool when I started, but soon started feeling puffs of warm wind. Bit blustery by the time I got near the city. Got the 3l camelbak with me today, but still wondering if I'll get home without refilling.

Re: Possible Main Yarra Trail closure - May 2014

I don't find the gravel very good at all and can't wait until they seal the whole of the MYT through Banyule which will make it so much more pleasurable a safer ride and my bike will stay clean as well. I beg to differ. I and countless others run along the MYT through Banyule (particularly on Sunda...

Re: Possible Main Yarra Trail closure - May 2014

Looking forward to riding this section now, been a long time coming. Agree that dirt/gravel is fine - less likely to be damaged by tree roots, etc

Re: How was your commute today

havent been riding the last few weeks but one thing I've noticed as a motorist is the relatively large number of cyclists who don't check over their shoulder for oncoming vehicles when changing from bike lane (due to parked cars) into adjacent traffic lane. Are they just relying on the sound of tra...

Re: GVBR 2016

Did the 9 day, but left at Queenscliff via ferry on Saturday rather than ride into Geelong Sunday and cope with the logistics of getting home from there. Loved the "quiet" camping area - didn't have to listen to a generator all night, and the extra walking didn't worry me. First few nights...

Re: How was your commute today

Kept having to review layers, reducing from the time I got up to the time I started - the temperature seemed to climb quickly. Ended up starting in summer gear with leg/arm warmers and gillet - which didn't last long. Nice ride, but more bikes on the MYT than I've seen since last summer, starting fr...

Great day for it :D Started off at 8c in Warrandyte, was 12.5c at Chandler Road - I think I've got the layering sorted pretty well now.

Re: How was your commute today

My commute? Kept thinking I'd forgotten something this morning. Remembered to get jocks and socks (rest was at work), but it wasn't until I was leaving the bike transport vehicle that I found I didn't have my Garmin. Nice ride in not interrupted by looking at speed or heart rate :) , had to take off...

Re: How was your commute today

heavy shower just before get up time this morning nearly put me off, but by the time I'd had breakfast it looked good. Nice ride in. Took a path from Dight's Falls I hadn't tried before and ended up on Johnson St - don't think I'll do it again. I've had major problems with allergies in the past, but...
