Strong La Nina, expecting it to be rather wet. At least it will be mild.

Re: How was your commute today

not many cars around, soon we'll be inundated again as the average aussie, couldn't even lift their leg over a bike to ride it. still have some extended commutes planned, now we have daylight saving and beautiful weather for next 3 months .... and covid free.

Re: Melbourne lockdown

yep 25k gets us to some nice hills. rode through boulie this morning, looking green from all the rain not many riders around as yet; this gets me back to some fun loops from home as boulie is always at the start or end of rides.

camera's on boulie will be a deterrent better than nothing I guess.

Re: Melbourne lockdown

So the whisper is 20km from home to be announced this Sunday! :D Sorry, don't think that is good enough. Should be at least all of Metropolitan Melbourne. I'm sick of just riding in the Dandenongs. I want some flat roads and want to ride to St. Kilda. agree, there's just no medical reason to limit ...

No more Buff wearing unfortunately: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-10-12/victoria-coronavirus-face-mask-rule-changes-explained/12752128 but we're riding so not an issue. If you are doing exercise or physical activity where you are out of breath or puffing, such as jogging or running, you do not n...

Re: The Need for Speed

so you're looking at 40k a day ... 200k a week?, sorry but Kona has to be retired due to age, weight and low efficiency. it's not about time, its more about reducing fatigue over your riding week. and the fact you can enjoy the commute as you'll feel fresher each day. The quickest and most efficient...

Re: Melbourne lockdown

its a funny thing, I've gone from roadie laps as that was the most time efficient and least fatigue; to gravel - a bit more fun and now the mtb, in 1 hour I get hit up some tough urban park climbs. 6-8 hours of interval type riding per week will still keep you very fit. and have fun of course and st...

Re: How was your commute today

its a positive move; of course the real challenge will be to get the fatties out of their cars in winter, what we might need are push teams at the bottom of hills for the hopelessly sedentary. govt, needs to probably offer a tax incentive for bicycles, I'm still amazed at people standing at tram sto...

Re: Hit run fatality on Beach Road

General comment on how a bike lane can sometimes make it more dangerous for cyclists. If you look at where the incident occurred, its where the road architecture has created a narrow/slow point - i.e. keep the cyclists to the left whilst still allowing vehicles to proceed on corner unhindered, of co...

Re: How was your commute today

hmm lots of people riding all of a sudden - I'd say triple the numbers, takes a crisis like this to get them off their lazy asses, oh well, a few positives out of this. a win for commuting :)
