Re: Parkiteer

Bit of an update: this morning I noticed a older guy inside the office so I thought i'd ask him what the story was. He said that they were all leased. I commented that I'd never seen anyone using them and asked if any were becoming available soon. But i didn't get much info, just that they were leas...

Re: Parkiteer

I can't remember now. My mobile doesn't handle phone menu options well. I just remember hanging on for ages. I think I had to hang up to get off the train. Tomorrow I'll take some twist ties and tie the latches held by the rusty old padlocks that look like they haven't been opened in years. If nobod...

Parkiteer

I live near Upper Ferntree Gully train station these days. There is no Parkiteer cage at UFTG station but there is a set of those old bike lockers. All of which have padlocks but I have never ever, seen anyone either putting a bike in or taking one out. I asked at the office if there were any vacant...

Re: Forum broken

Well, we are up but for how long......... What other forums do our members visit? ..... Frosty. I still go to fixed.org.au every now and then, but that's shrinking as well. I loathe facebook and I've never got into instagram or twitter. But they work because they're free, made for mobiles and requi...

Re: Forum broken

So was it a deliberate shutdown or just CBF fixing it? The direct link at the bottom of the BV home page never went away.

Re: How was your recreational ride today?

Too nice a morning to spend working around the yard so I jumped on the bike to explore my new neighbourhood in Upper Ferntree Gully. Clear blue sky and protected from the wind down in the valley. It was perfect riding weather. (In the morning anyway). This is just down the hill and around the corner...

Re: What 3 words

It'd probably help to de-randomise certain landmarks that are well know world wide, eg The trevi fountain in Rome could be set as ///trevi.fountain.rome or ///times.square.ny or the top of the Great pyramid becomes //great.pyramid.giza etc.

But I like it and I hope it catches on.

What 3 words

Maybe this is old news to everyone else but I only just discovered it last week. What3words have divided the world into a 3 metre grid with each grid square identified by a 3 word phrase. So, under the clocks at Flinders street could now be ///press.cheese.unrealistic The rolladoor in North St at th...

Re: Ride, from wherever yr @, to a microbrewry? 1st/2nd Fri of month

So the Colonial was a nice ride. I left Burwood in 35C and was pretty thirsty by the time I arrived at the Colonial in Port Melbourne. A gang mounted on Bromptons soon turned up. I watched them fold their bicycles into halfs then quarters then eighths. Euler would have been proud. But they were a fr...

Re: Ride, from wherever yr @, to a microbrewry? 1st/2nd Fri of month

Noice! Sat was my Fri, so I tended to be dropping thru a few micro (and nano) breweries on my way home. There's plenty westwards too these days, so sadly, Goat is only an occasional visit. Boneheads and Henry St in Kensington (although not actually in Henry St) are frequent, Hop Nation and Two Bird...

Re: Why are the Forums slowing down?

One of the reasons this forum is so quiet is that BN have made no effort to update the forum software with recent technology: it's still running on software that's at least 20 years old. . If it's not broken then there is no need to fix it. What desirable features does this forum lack and could you...

Re: Why are the Forums slowing down?

Doubtful there are that many needing moderating. More likely IRL people don't want to discuss some topics on FB, or not under their name, etc. Yes, I agree. Interestingly the owner of the Cycleblaze site , which broke away from the CrazyGuy site about a year ago has suggested to his financial membe...

Re: Velodrome riding

I don't want to start a whataboutism argument, but if skateparks can get funding by the same council to build new skating facilities without skaters holding regular minutes or have identifiable representation, why can't recreational cyclists of a velodrome get the same treatment? What if some of th...
