Re: How was your commute today

It's been a long time since I commuted by bike. Over a year. I'm incredibly unfit, no strength in my legs, no stamina at all. Rode my husband's electric bike to work and back. I am deeply impressed, envious and want my own.

Has anyone tried the Lekker electrics?

Re: Advice for Novice Commuter Going from Wantirna South to Monash University Clayton

I'd recommend a luggage rack, panniers, and mudguards too. And seriously consider joining the bike user groups at Monash Uni. They will have maps and local bike shop contacts too. As is repeated often - get a bike that is a good fit now, but don't break the budget. You'll probably upgrade in 6 month...

Re: How was your commute today

Lovely ride home. :D

Took the northern side of the Yarra path and avoided all the rowing coaches.

Still heard them though

Re: (fairly) high performance kids bikes

OOOH! .... and b*gg#r! This has come out 3 years too late for my Miss 10 who has her brother's hand me down XS flat bar. Accessorised with luggage rack, lock, rechargeable lights .. and a bottle cage. Haven't considered mudguards as she rarely goes out in the rain.. and is growing too fast to bother...

Re: Joining the Yarra path from MacRobertson Bridge

Took the kids to the bouldering site. Many thanks for the weblink and directions.

Kids had a blast, running around, climbing, eating lunch and so on. Then Mr 14 had a mild asthma episode & Miss 10 kerflumped so we all went home.

Will do it again, but with an inhaler + ventolin

Re: Joining the Yarra path from MacRobertson Bridge

Punt Road sounds about right. Good to know I can find a bike repair guy so easily. I have paid homage to the "perfect tyre & tube goddess" by putting the super duper kevlar schwalbe tyres and strong tubes. I maintain evidence of this homage through always having a pump nearby. To appea...

Re: How long does your bike clothing last?

You could try taking the shoes to a cobbler. Manfred runs North Melbourne Shoe repair in Errol St, Nth Melb. He is awesome and can tell you if something is salvageable or not. The guy loves shoes and everything about them. If you take in some RM's boots he will almost genuflect...

Re: Joining the Yarra path from MacRobertson Bridge

OK - rode home by turning right to go left, as suggested by most of you. It was rather chilly today. The bits under the freeway were very cold, but I can see they will delightful come January and February. I discovered some rock climbing stuff that I never knew existed. Too cool. Also passed a mobil...

Re: How was your recreational ride today?

snip,snip... Maybe there will be a fourth ride eventually. Some day. Yes there will. :) I have seen the small children trailer, what you need is a bassinet on wheels. :) Here's hoping ;) Yeah, still considering options. I think the grandparents are keen on a trailer so we can all drag him around to...

Re: Joining the Yarra path from MacRobertson Bridge

Thanking the brains trust! I will give this blind and possibly hazardous corner a go. I hadn't thought of turning right so that end up going left, it seems counter-intuitive. I see some bike bell ringing in my future :D This week it is school holidays and I have time to explore a bit. Usually I have...

Re: Tips for shopping/quaxing at the supermarket?

I have too many people to buy for (husband, three STARVING teenagers and me). I use my cargo bike :D :D That is almost filled by a weekly Aldi shop. Then I'd fill it again for the weekly Vic Market shop. For the occasional Costco shop I fill the panniers on the cargo bike as well as the main box bit...

Joining the Yarra path from MacRobertson Bridge

Hello Brains Trust :D I have a new commute home (new part time job - yay!!!) which uses the Yarra path home to the inner north suburbs. Currently I can get onto the southern side easily - the path that hugs Toorak & South Yarra. I ride down Orrong and St Georges Rd to get to it. I then have to d...

Re: How was your recreational ride today?

Took advantage of the Vline Family Ticket deal. Me and two of the kids went up to Gisborne yesterday - all on one adult ticket.Cruised around Gisborne, met a friend, ate cake, checked out the opp shops (well Miss 15 did) and then came home. Train was good both ways but a bit crowded coming back. Mus...

Re: Stinky clothes being left in change room & bike cage

Thanks for the replies everyone.... stuff... I will bring a can of Glen20 in and have it on standby I think as well. Cheers all :) I find burning a (single) match is far more effective at neutralising smells. I used to carry one of those folder/book thingies to a particular unit I worked in. The to...

My husband and daughter saw the above and simultaneously said:

"WHY?"

And they like cycling... :D
