How have they solved the issue that you can't fit a trike, tandem or many trailers through the anti-tank bollards and chicanes installed on so many "bicycle paths"

Re: Around the Bay 2016.

Great, thanks Snuffy. I figured I'll probably only do it once, so I'll have a crack at the full 250k anti-clockwise loop. You've done it before then? Enjoy it? To be honest, I wanted to do it years ago when we first moved here from the UK but the more events I've done, (not many to be honest), the ...

Re: Melbourne plan to make 25% of trips by bicycle

Pontoon 'speed bumps' drive me nuts, has to be contributing to wheel failure, no more pontoons! Not really. Unless your wheels are made of paper machete and rice noodles then you are kidding yourself. A paper machete... that could _really_ give you a paper cut! Wheels are VERY strong. I ride down s...

Re: How was your commute today

Hat off to all of you who rode today. Hat is indeed off, and at least three suburbs away due to the wind. Wet wild and windy in the morning, not so wet but windy and wilder in the evening. Trees, paper bags, the odd chunk of detached shrubbery, the one saving grace was the lack of other people abou...

Re: How was your recreational ride today?

Off into the eastern wastelands yesterday afternoon, following the "Station trail" as it appears and disappears arbitrarily until finally it ends at a chain link fence at Yarraman station. Look carefully and you can see how to get through the side and under Eastlink where I explored the Da...

Re: How was your commute today

Some of us have to work today, but very few judging by the lack 'o traffic. The only drawback of commuting on a public holiday is that inevitably on the way home I'll go past a trailer load of garbage dumped somewhere along the bike path by someone who has taken the day as an opportunity to clean up...

Re: Bike Lane Confusion

I wouldn't give up yet. Yes, they can travel 50m in a bike lane for good reasons but I've never seen that parking is one of those reasons. Good luck with it MtG. https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/safety-and-road-rules/road-rules/a-to-z-of-road-rules/bicycles Bicycle lane rules for drivers If you’re d...

Re: How was your commute today

Hands up those looking forward to riding home in near 40C heat with humidity? 'twas indeed awesome fun. I thought I'd take the back streets as much as I could, it's only 6km total but even that little bit helps. Second roundabout I get to in Clayton I have to take evasive action, idiot in red...

Riding home yesterday it had to happen. Third day of semester, first near head-on pass with one of our overseas students; helmetless, in thongs, phone in one hand and cigarette in the other riding the wrong way around a roundabout. I name thee "mr stereotype" Added degree of difficulty arr...

Re: Gardiners Creek Trail - Brixton Rise works

Nice piece of research popcorn. Mid May. ugh. I only commute twice a week, but I'm finding it an annoying little detour. Agree on all points. Have been caught at the lights every time through there so far! Reads as if they will be adding a separated path, so once finished we won't have to swing ont...

Re: How was your commute today

Forgot that today was bike count Tuesday otherwise I would have gone for my usual weave up and down the Eastern suburbs. Still managed to give a friendly ding ding and wave to the last few that I passed. Most of them seemed a bit stunned when I did that... *shrugs* No bike counter along the Station...

Re: How was your commute today

By jogging in the middle (and I mean middle) of (probably) Melbourne's busiest cycling trail, she's going to get plenty of close passes. Yes. Some cyclists are irresponsible, impatient, and inconsiderate of the risk they pose to other path users. Thursday evening surprise. At least he kept left, un...

Re: How was your commute today

Anyone using the Station trail between Oakleigh and Hughesdale, you'll probably find it taped off with police tape tomorrow morning (it has been since about 7pm this evening) between Richardson street and somewhere down towards Hughesdale station. Seek alternate route. After having a dozen officers...
