Re: new zealand

Found this explanation on the BV site for the cost of the Great Escapade New Zealand in 2012: Why is the cost higher than other Bicycle Victoria multi day rides? The Great Escapade New Zealand 2012 is based upon competitor touring rides in New Zealand as well as ensuring that the event is delivered ...

Re: new zealand

1071 riders for the 2004 Great New Zealand Bike Ride. I assume that the 2012 ride will see similar numbers, if the $1995 price doesn't put too many off. I remember paying $750 for the 2009 GVBR on the Great Ocean Road. Fantastic ride. Great value. I think that it went up to $800 or thereabouts the n...

Avoiding the breakfast queue

I DO take my own breakfast. Fruit muesli for me. The coffee tent has milk for the breakfast cereal, and coffee of course.

Avoiding the breakfast queue means that I can get off to an early start. With an early start, the day simply falls into place.

what is available in the form of "shoe condoms"??? Something that squishes up into nothing and can be brought into service if I get stuck when it rains while I'm out? You get them in the supermarket. They have loaves of bread inside that you will have to eat or otherwise deal with. They d...

My lbs sold me a metal pole that attached to the bike so that I could run behind without having to hold on to the rear of the seat. This meant that the bike didn't fall over. Without the risk of injury my child had more confidence to keep trying and eventually worked it out. Don't get too worried a...

Salary packaging to buy a bicycle is already available to some. If you are lucky enough to work for a public benevolent institution (public hospital, ambulance service etc.) you can salary package with no FBT.

There is a limit. $8,000 or thereabouts. I could live with that.

Actually 2 kids plus me and an electric motor. Every showground or sporting ground where we camped had at least one of those electricity boxes. Usually the first-aid people and the VRA set up nearby. I just found an extra socket or asked if I could plug in a double adapter. Batteries charged overni...

Niggle, thanks for sharing your experience. I need to test my strength and endurance pulling a trailer, and also the endurance of the baby. I have to confess though that the three seater tandem that we took on the NSW Big Ride had a 200 watt hub motor on the front. Very useful on the hills. Nearly ...

after a ride in the wet or washing your bike, give the spokes a wipe over with a cloth dampened with a silicone water dispersant, taking care to dry out the points where the spokes intersect. I am sure that there is a psychiatric diagnosis for that kind of behaviour. I'm happy to oil the chain, but...

He pointed out the rust spots on the spoke and then bent the spoke once and bent it back and it snapped. The front spokes on my blue GVBR started falling off. I wasn't even riding the bike. It was just sitting on the indoor trainer and I noticed that over time rust spots developed and they simply f...

Our family rides together and I don't want to be stuck at home because we have a baby. We tackled the NSW Big Ride on a three seater tandem, but adding a baby does complicate matters a little I agree. Perhaps this solutiion might be better: http://www.deanwoods.com.au/store/images/2-rider.jpg Just ...

Servicing hubs - how often?

The rear hub on my mountain bike wasn't running smoothly so I pulled it apart with a view to repacking with grease. Full of small pieces of metal and the cone has an area that is obviously worn. The bike has only done 2500 km, albeit on a daily mix of dirt and sealed roads and in all weathers (Ther...

I'm off to check out my local KMart... I could not resist the $129 K-mart child trailer. Bought one and sat it in the shed for four months until my son was old enough. First ride today. I am impressed. Allow frame and lightweight. Folds and unfolds easily. Easily attaches to the bike. Steel wheel r...
